Each year we look forward to the Chelsea Flower Show, one of the most colourful spectacles of the London social season. This flower-filled week in May allows visitors to take in magnificent garden displays, created and curated by horticultural experts from around the world.
Chelsea has a different theme every year and 2019’s is ‘Under the Sea’. Spectators can expect to see all manner of ocean inspired exhibits, such as top designer Andy Sturgeon’s wonderful rock garden, which is based on rock formations on an Australian beach.
HRH the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, will also be co-designing a garden this year, entitled ‘Back to Nature’, which highlights the benefits the natural world brings to mental wellbeing and is sure to be a must-see.
This quintessentially British event, thought by many to signal the start of summer, doesn’t have a strict dress code as such. Men are, however, expected to wear a jacket and tie and it is suggested that women should wear a day dress, ideally with a floral print.
If you’re looking for inspiration on what sort of jewellery to wear to set off your Chelsea look, we recently created a very special bespoke pendant, that would make the ideal accessory to tie in with this year’s theme.
Our very own ‘under the sea’ piece, this stunning pearl, diamond and yellow gold starfish pendant was inspired by the natural beauty of the ocean and the sea life that inhabits it. The necklace is centred around a breath-taking fresh water pearl discovered by our client on an English beach.
It was important to the client that the piece had a natural theme, to showcase the luminescent look of the pearl. Our designer Emma put together several drawings with different design options, to ensure the pendant was everything the client had imagined.
The starfish has a slightly irregular shape to mimic the outline of an organic sea creature and is set with over thirty diamonds to add the perfect amount of sparkle and shimmer. The pearl moves gently below the starfish as if echoing the movement of a pearl under water.
The end result is an ‘under the sea’ treasure fit for Chelsea Flower Show, or any occasion.
