Diana has been a client since the inception of W&W Jewellery, so it was a huge treat when she contacted us about such an exciting commission. When an accident befell her beautiful ruby and diamond ring it was the perfect opportunity to create a piece of her very own having always admired the bold and eye-catching brooches of the 1970s.
Conscious of the cost associated with crafting a piece like this by hand Richard set to work researching a series of options to realise Diana’s dream.
After exploring ideas that included folding gold sheet and casting a mould from a real flower Richard found an original, but tired, 1970s silver floral brooch in the US and hatched a rather ambitious plan to embellish it. The vintage brooch was the right aesthetic, period, and proportions so after shipment to the UK it formed the basis of the commission. Once in the workshop the metal was cleaned back to “new” before it was transformed with painstaking precision by our goldsmith with an array of new settings. Generously finished in 18ct gold it has an incredible depth of colour that perfectly complements the sections of Diana’s ruby alongside a dazzling array of other gemstones including emerald, sapphires, and old cut diamonds. The resulting piece can be worn both as a brooch or pendant on a chunky 1970s style silver chain. A true modern treasure.
