Some bespoke projects begin with a fully formed design; others, like this one, evolve organically through thoughtful exploration. This lovely commission started when a couple approached us, already engaged but excited to create a bespoke engagement ring that was entirely personal, designed together from the ground up.
Without a clear vision, we embarked on this design journey together, exploring a variety of styles, spanning timeless three-stone settings to classic halos and delicate cluster designs. Our consultations drew out a desire to incorporate both sapphire and diamonds into the design, and also to subtly draw on family tradition. Her mother and sister both wear cluster rings, and while there was a gentle nod to this shared style, she was also keen to create something that felt distinctly her own.
Selecting the right sapphire was a key element of the design process. We curated a diverse collection of stones, offering a range of hues. The couple were both immediately drawn to a richly toned, deep blue sapphire that radiated a beautiful intensity. With the gemstone chosen, attention turned to proportion. As the sapphire offered generous dimensions, we created scaled sketches and a 3D printed model to provide a true sense of how the final ring would sit on her hand. This step offered invaluable reassurance, confirming that the final design would feel beautifully balanced and comfortably proportioned.
Once approved, we moved ahead with crafting the final piece, setting the sapphire within a refined halo of brilliant cut diamonds, all elegantly set in platinum. The result is a bespoke engagement ring which is generous in scale yet sits in perfect harmony on her hand.
This commission perfectly reflects what bespoke jewellery is all about: the freedom to explore, refine, and create a beautifully crafted piece that is entirely personal and a joy to wear.
