For this bespoke three stone engagement ring commission, our client approached us with a loose vision rather than a fixed design direction. The process was highly collaborative, allowing the final design to evolve naturally through conversations, sketches and CAD development.

One detail that remained consistent from the beginning was the inclusion of blue – a colour his partner loves to wear. Rather than allowing the sapphires to dominate the design, we used them as elegant accent stones to frame the centre diamond. The final composition pairs an oval-cut diamond with two pear-shaped blue sapphires, creating a striking balance between timeless elegance and subtle individuality.

A key element of this design is the overall flow and silhouette of the ring. We incorporated a soft curve within the setting inspired by a meaningful landscape feature connected to the couple, giving the piece a hidden layer of personal symbolism without overpowering the clean aesthetic of the ring. Viewed from the side, the open gallery and flowing structure create a beautiful sense of lightness and movement, adding interest from every angle.

Several side stone options were presented during the design process, with the final selection driven entirely by aesthetics rather than specifications on paper. The proportions, colour saturation and shape of the sapphires all had to feel visually balanced alongside the centre diamond. The chosen stones brought exactly the right contrast, vivid enough to add depth and character, yet refined enough to keep the ring elegant and timeless.
