This custom Asscher cut diamond and ruby cluster ring was commissioned as a deeply personal piece. Our client had inherited an Asscher cut diamond from her mother, set within a delicate halo, alongside a collection of other sentimental jewellery containing round brilliant cut diamonds and richly coloured rubies sourced from a single clip brooch. The brief was clear: to honour the emotional significance of the stones while transforming them into a ring that felt bold, contemporary, and wearable every day.

From the outset, the gemstones guided the design process, with the Asscher cut diamond and accompanying inherited stones shaping every decision that followed. The aim was to increase the visual presence of the central Asscher cut diamond, creating a statement without venturing into cocktail-ring proportions. Through a series of design iterations, we explored ways to incorporate as many of the existing diamonds and rubies as possible, ensuring that no gemstone felt secondary or decorative without purpose.

The final design centres around the Asscher cut diamond, framed by a structured halo of the larger round brilliant cut diamonds. Two vibrant rubies sit confidently at either side of the centre stone, adding depth, contrast, and a striking flash of colour. Smaller round brilliant diamonds were carefully integrated into the shoulders of the ring, allowing the design to flow seamlessly around the finger while maintaining balance and wearability.

Inspired by the geometry and elegance of 1920s jewellery design, the ring features a low-profile setting that makes it ideal for everyday wear. Working from Narell’s hand-drawn sketches, digital modelling allowed us to refine proportions and test variations for the design. This enables us to clearly communicate to our client how each design choice would affect the final piece.

Designed to be worn on the right hand, this ring is a confident statement and a true conversation starter. It reflects a growing shift we are seeing within bespoke jewellery, where women are commissioning meaningful pieces for themselves rather than waiting for a traditional milestone.
