Some commissions begin with an idea and others start with a feeling…
For this ring, our client came to us looking to create a piece just for herself, something that felt like the beginning of a new family heirloom. Drawn to the charm of vintage and antique jewellery, particularly the soft geometry and character of old-cut diamonds, she hoped to create a ring that encapsulated vintage charm while still feeling unmistakably modern.
Working with three beautiful old-cut diamonds, we chose to craft the ring entirely in 18-carat yellow gold, using a sculptural rex-style setting to hold each stone. While three-stone rings are traditionally associated with engagement jewellery, this piece was not required to be worn alongside other rings. That freedom allowed us to be generous with the proportions, widening each setting, lifting the architecture slightly, and giving every diamond its own stage to shine. The result is a composition that feels bold, elegant, and full of presence.
Each of the old-cut diamonds brings incredible history to the design, the hand-cut facets capture the light with a softness and depth that modern cuts simply do not replicate. However, the finished ring feels surprisingly contemporary. That is the beauty of combining antique diamonds with today’s digital precision in design and manufacturing: a meeting of past and present, translated into a bespoke creation that feels timeless rather than nostalgic.
The finish piece has a sculptural quality – confident curves, expressive claw work, and a structure that celebrates the individuality of each stone. A modern heirloom in every sense: rooted in history, made for the present, and destined to be treasured for generations.
