Every commission tells a story, and for this ring, it was about revisiting an idea once set aside. A returning client, who had previously entrusted us with creating their engagement ring, came back to our Battersea bespoke jewellery studio to explore the possibility of bringing an emerald into their jewellery collection. While the engagement ring had not included an emerald for practical reasons, this new commission was the perfect opportunity to create something striking and meaningful with one of the world’s most captivating gemstones.

Over a series of appointments, we carefully curated a selection of emeralds for our client to view. Each stone was assessed for its colour, clarity, proportions and overall quality, as emeralds are unique in their characteristics and require particular attention when selecting the perfect one. Among the choices, it was clear that our client was drawn to oval cuts – elegant, timeless, and perfectly suited to a ring that needed to balance everyday wear with dramatic presence.

Once the emerald was chosen for its vivid colour and harmonious proportions, we began shaping the design. At first, we considered a simple rubover setting to highlight the gemstone, but as the design developed, it became clear that the ring should carry something more sculptural and distinctive. The idea of a wrap-around form emerged, creating flowing lines that embrace the emerald while giving the ring movement and character from every angle.

Crafted in yellow gold, the final design is generous in proportion yet elegant in flow. The sculpted curves not only protect the emerald but also create an unmistakably eye-catching piece – bold, fluid, and contemporary. Commissioned as a gift, it is a ring that celebrates both love and individuality, embodying the thoughtfulness behind its creation.
