This commission began with a clear and confident vision: a vintage-inspired three stone engagement ring featuring the unmistakable charm of old cut diamonds. The couple had tried on a similar style at Burlington Arcade, but it was not quite the right scale – they wanted something with more presence. Referred to us by an existing client, they visited our Clapham–Battersea studio to explore how we could make a piece that was truly theirs.
Simon presented both old cut and modern diamond options, but it was the old cuts that captured their hearts. These diamonds, with their softer sparkle, taller crowns, and subtle irregularities, carry a romance that cannot be replicated by modern precision cutting. Sourcing them, however, is no small task. Each stone is unique, and finding three that harmonise perfectly in size, shape, and character takes time and expertise.
We began with the side stones – a beautifully matched pair of Victorian cut diamonds – before turning our attention to the centre stone. The diamond had to be substantial enough to command attention, yet not so large that it overpowered the design or felt heavy on her petite finger. After an extensive search, the ideal diamond was found, one that echoed the side stones’ character and brought perfect balance to the ring.
Crafted in warm yellow gold, the design features intricate scrollwork along the gallery, adding depth and artistry from every angle. The result is a bespoke three stone ring that combines the elegance of antique jewellery with a structure built to last for generations.
For this couple, it is more than a ring, it is the perfect expression of their shared style, a future heirloom rooted in the romance of the past.
