Having previously created various pieces of jewellery for different members of his family, Theo contacted us to create a bespoke engagement ring. Early conversations centred around ideas for a sapphire and diamond three stone ring, with a shared desire to create something timeless yet personal – rooted in classic design while reflecting the couple’s own story.

We explored a wide range of design possibilities together, presenting different interpretations of the three stone style alongside variations in stone size, proportion, and overall balance. A carefully curated selection of sapphires and diamonds was sourced for Theo to consider, with a particular focus on pale to very pale sapphires. These lighter-toned sapphires were chosen deliberately, as their subtle colour allows the diamonds to bring light and brilliance to the ring while still retaining the distinctive character of a sapphire centre stone.

Once the stones were selected, attention turned to how they could be set in a way that felt individual rather than purely traditional. Drawing inspiration from Theo’s passion for vintage cars—a shared interest within the relationship—the design developed beyond a classic three stone arrangement. Subtle references were taken from the chain-link drive of a specific vintage car, influencing the structure of the settings and introducing a sense of looping connectivity. This detail links the stones together visually and symbolically, creating a flow that feels considered and unique.

The finished ring pairs a familiar three stone engagement ring silhouette with refined, contemporary detailing. Crafted in yellow gold with contrasting platinum settings, the design allows the stones to remain the focal point while the structure adds depth and meaning. The result is a ring that feels elegant, personal, and quietly distinctive.

Theo was closely involved throughout the process, from stone selection to final design refinements. His care and thoughtfulness during each stage of the journey directly shaped the finished piece. This commission is a strong example of how a classic engagement ring style can be reinterpreted through bespoke design—made more meaningful through collaboration, shared interests, and attention to detail
