Great ideas often evolve through conversation, and for James, discussing his vision with Narell at a wedding helped refine the detail of his unique engagement ring. He had been considering proposing to his partner, Lottie, for some time and had a few engagement ring design ideas in mind, but was looking for guidance to bring them to life. With love already in the air, their conversation sparked how the design could come together. To keep everything a surprise, they wrapped up their chat quickly, agreeing to reconnect after the wedding.
Following their conversation, Narell sketched out a concept based on what they had discussed and what James felt would be perfect for Lottie. The design immediately resonated with him, and he was eager to visit the W&W Jewellery studio to view a selection of diamonds and opals that would complete the piece. Under the guidance of Simon, our experienced jeweller, James learned about diamond quality, light performance, and how to select a stone that would enhance the overall elegance of the ring. Once the perfect centre diamond had been found, they moved on to another essential element – choosing a pair of marquise-shaped opals to sit on either side. As avid opal lovers – James and Lottie share a deep appreciation for the gemstone – including opals in the engagement ring was an absolute must.
The final design is a truly unique engagement ring, a sculptural take on the three-stone style. The diamond is set in a half-bezel to maximise light reflection, with the marquise-shaped opals sitting gracefully on either side, resembling delicate petals. Crafted in warm yellow gold, this is a truly distinctive ring, designed with thought and intention.
James collected the ring from our London studio ahead of his return to New Zealand, where he and Lottie currently reside. He had a proposal in mind and held onto the ring until the perfect moment arrived. After a long walk on the beach where they had their first date and a swim in the ocean, he asked the question. It could not have gone better – Lottie said yes and has not stopped admiring her ring since!
