Bespoke Old Cut Diamond Engagement Ring

This bespoke old cut diamond engagement ring began with a client who wanted to create something truly personal. He contacted us well before Christmas, allowing plenty of time to explore ideas, source the perfect diamond and carefully refine every detail before the proposal.

The design process started with two distinct sources of inspiration. One featured a beautifully simple oval diamond solitaire with intricate engraved details, whilst the other incorporated diamonds surrounding the centre stone. What connected both concepts was a love of diamonds with character and warmth. Rather than a bright white stone, he was drawn to subtle champagne and yellow tones, appreciating the individuality and softness they bring.

To help him compare different options, Simon sourced a selection of both modern and old cut diamonds in a range of colours and characteristics. Among them was an exceptional oval old cut diamond with a delicate yellow hue that immediately stood out. Its distinctive faceting, soft colour and unique personality perfectly captured everything he had been drawn to throughout the design process.

With the centre stone chosen, we began developing a design that would showcase its individuality. The final concept combined a graceful split-band silhouette with hand-engraved detailing that subtly draws the eye towards the diamond. Rather than competing with the centre stone, the engraving enhances its beauty, creating a harmonious balance between craftsmanship and gemstone.

To ensure every detail felt right, we presented a selection of engraving patterns before refining the final design. The chosen motif was engraved entirely by hand, adding depth, texture and artistry that cannot be replicated by machine. This meticulous finishing process gives the ring an heirloom quality and reinforces its one-of-a-kind nature.

The finished piece features a stunning oval yellow old cut diamond set in warm yellow gold, framed by intricate hand engraving and elegant proportions. It is a ring defined by character rather than perfection, celebrating the individuality and charm that make old cut diamonds so captivating.

Upon collecting the ring, the groom-to-be told us how much he had enjoyed the bespoke process and how delighted he was with the result. Following the proposal, we were thrilled to hear how much the finished ring was loved – the perfect conclusion to such a personal commission.
