Bespoke Pink Diamond Dress Ring
There is something special about creating a piece of jewellery simply for yourself. We created this bespoke pink diamond dress ring for a client who came to W&W through a longstanding recommendation. The brief was to create a significant piece of jewellery centred around one exceptional natural pink diamond.
From the outset, the vision was clear. The pink diamond needed to be the undisputed focus of the ring, with no additional diamonds or gemstones competing for attention. It needed to have presence and individuality, while remaining beautifully proportioned and practical enough to be worn every day.
We began by exploring relatively simple single-stone settings before gradually developing the design into something much more sculptural. A series of interlinking and overlapping bands began to take shape, creating movement around the finger and naturally drawing the eye towards the centre stone.
At the same time, the search for the right natural pink diamond was underway. Natural pink diamonds are exceptionally rare, and finding the right combination of colour, character and value was fundamental to the success of the piece. Working with one of our trusted specialist diamond merchants, Richard sourced two beautiful possibilities for our client to consider, both with the strength and quality of colour we were looking for. With our client’s input, the final GIA-certified natural pink diamond was selected and the design developed around it.
The finished ring brings together platinum and 18ct yellow gold in a series of fluid, overlapping bands. Alternating the metals gives definition to the individual strands and accentuates the sense of movement, while the open construction creates visual impact without making the ring feel overly large or heavy on the hand.
At its centre, the natural pink diamond is held in a clean platinum rubover setting. The cool white metal frames the stone beautifully, allowing its vivid pink tones to stand apart from the warmth of the surrounding yellow gold. Small gold details intersect the setting, visually uniting the different elements and making the diamond feel integral to the flowing structure of the ring rather than simply placed upon it.
The result is a contemporary bespoke dress ring with a wonderful sculptural quality, intricate when viewed up close, yet harmonious as a whole. Every sweeping line draws the eye back towards the exceptional pink diamond at its centre.
Our client placed a great deal of trust in us to interpret her ideas and create something distinctly her own, so seeing her reaction to the finished ring was particularly rewarding. It is a wonderful example of what a self-commission can become: a piece created without convention, designed entirely around the extraordinary individual who will wear it.
