Bespoke Ruby Ring

This bespoke ruby ring was commissioned as a special anniversary gift, with the client looking to create something both meaningful and timeless for his wife. Whilst she already owned a larger gemstone ring with a similar overall aesthetic, he wanted to create a piece that felt familiar to her style whilst celebrating an exceptional ruby at its centre.

The project began with sourcing the perfect gemstone. We presented a carefully curated selection of rubies, each chosen for its colour, character and overall beauty. Finding high-quality round cut rubies can be particularly challenging, as the cutting process often results in greater material loss compared to other shapes, making them less commonly available. The collection included stones ranging from vivid pinkish-red hues through to deeper, richer reds, allowing the client to compare a variety of options.

The chosen ruby immediately stood out for its exceptional colour and presence. Whilst its exact origin could not be confirmed, its rich saturation and vibrant tone are highly reminiscent of rubies traditionally associated with Myanmar (Burma), renowned for producing some of the world’s most sought-after stones.

Once the ruby had been selected, we developed a design that would place the gemstone firmly at the centre of attention. Crafted in yellow gold, the ring features a flowing, sculptural silhouette that rises naturally towards the setting. A subtle crossover gallery beneath the stone adds an elegant architectural detail, whilst distinctive double talon claws provide both security and character. The warm tones of the gold beautifully complement the ruby’s rich colour, enhancing its depth and vibrancy.

Careful attention was also given to the proportions of the ring, ensuring it had a satisfying weight and luxurious feel when worn. The result is a design that feels substantial without being heavy, balancing everyday wearability with fine craftsmanship.

The entire project was completed remotely, with gemstone selections and design proposals presented digitally throughout the process. The finished ring exceeded expectations and was received exactly as intended: as a deeply personal gift. Most importantly, both husband and wife were delighted with the result, creating a piece that will forever mark a special milestone in their lives.
