Bespoke Ruby Stacking Rings
These bespoke ruby stacking rings were commissioned by our client as a 21st birthday gift for her daughter. She wanted to create a piece that felt special enough to mark the occasion, while still being something her daughter could enjoy wearing in different ways for years to come.
The design process began by exploring her daughter’s personal style and the jewellery she was naturally drawn towards. One important reference was a ring our client already owned, featuring a similar arrangement of gemstones within a single design. Her daughter had always liked that ring, which gave us a lovely starting point from which to develop something entirely her own.
Rather than creating one fixed ring, Simon developed the idea into a set of three individual stacking bands. This introduced a sense of versatility to the design: the rings can be worn all together for a stronger statement, combined as a pair, or worn individually for something more understated.
Colour became an important part of the design process too. We explored a range of sapphires in classic blue, teal, purple and green, as well as the possibility of mixing different gemstone colours across the three rings. Ultimately, our client was most drawn to the impact of one strong, unified colour.
The final choice was ruby. Set against warm yellow gold, the vibrant red of the round rubies gives the rings an immediate richness and energy. Each stone is individually bezel set and positioned at different points across the three bands, allowing the composition to come together almost like a constellation when the rings are stacked.
The finished set feels playful, modern and personal, while still having the longevity you want from a significant birthday gift.
A bespoke piece designed not only to celebrate turning 21, but to be worn, rearranged and enjoyed in whatever way feels right.
