Choosing a bespoke jeweller to create a unique piece of high-end jewellery opens the door to a journey that goes beyond merely owning a beautiful accessory. It’s a collaboration that brings personal expression and artistry together, transforming a vision into a piece that tells a story. Our bespoke jewellery designer Narell recently took on the exciting challenge of designing a pair of custom earrings with Richard. The aim of this project was to create a versatile, one-of-a-kind earring set for a client who already owns some of the most unique wedding jewellery and engagement pieces crafted by W&W.
The brief was an exciting challenge – to design a pair of playful bespoke earrings that could be worn daily and also allow the wearer freedom to mix, match, elevate, or simplify the look to suit the occasion. The design also needed to subtly tie in with her distinctive black opal and tsavorite W&W engagement ring.
Considering our client’s love for fine chain-style earrings that gently sway with each movement, Narell began sketching ideas that could offer versatility while staying true to her client’s aesthetic. Together with the team, our client chose a selection of luxurious, colourful gemstones for each chain drop element, incorporating blue tourmaline, tsavorite garnet, and black opal to complement a vibrant pair of demantoid garnet studs. This thoughtful selection added richness to the design and emphasised the client’s individuality. A suggestion from W&W’s goldsmith took this custom-made jewellery piece a step further. Instead of opting for the usual rhodium plating, it was decided to leave the white gold pure, retaining a deeper tone and a more unusual finish in the metal that further highlighted the beauty of the gemstones.
This bespoke earring commission required a precise balance, ensuring the chains would sit gracefully behind each other while achieving a harmonious mix of colours and textures. Each detail of this one-of-a-kind earring set was hand-selected, perfectly capturing the client’s vision and allowing her to wear something that is not just high-end jewellery but also an expression of her personality – a true treasure that transcends the ordinary.
