When our wonderful client came to us with a request for something unique, we knew this commission would have an exciting journey. This time, it wasn’t about cut of the gemstone but rather its colour – the most vibrant, oceanic blue we could find. Inspired by the specific hue she had experienced on her travels, our client wanted a Paraiba tourmaline gemstone in a cabochon cut – a combination that’s notoriously hard to come by. It was time for Ashleigh, our production coordinator, to take on the challenge.

Ashleigh’s mission was to source a Paraiba stone so vivid it would be impossible to forget. She knew this search would go beyond typical channels, so to bring this custom dress ring to life, she consulted one of our most trusted gemstone dealers, a specialist in rare and extraordinary gemstones. Amongst the exclusive selection of Paraiba stones on display, one caught Ashleigh’s eye – a luminous pear-cut cabochon. It was bold, breathtakingly blue and had a unique shape and cut.

Our client was presented with the incredible selection of Paraiba tourmalines curated by Ashleigh. Spellbound by the pear-cut cabochon Paraiba tourmaline, the choice was an easy one. Discussions immediately turned to how the design would present this beautiful stone to capture that free-spirited echo of the sea our client desired.

With the breath-taking gemstone in hand, our design team put their minds to crafting a setting that would truly let it shine. It was important that this one-of-a-kind ring stood out, and the design highlighted the unusual cabochon while adding a touch of elegance. The finished piece features graduated diamonds framing the pear-shaped stone, mimicking its outline and extending beyond its point, as if it were the crest of a breaking wave. The design creates a subtle sparkle that beautifully balances the bold colour of the Paraiba. By incorporating rose gold, we enhanced the depth of the blue, creating a ring with striking contrast that feels as modern as it is timeless.
